Build the foundation for a career in hospitality with our Hospitality Industry Professional with Co-op Program
The hospitality industry is one of BC’s leading industries. Students who choose to study this program will be prepared to pursue successful careers at hotels, cruise ships, excursions, wineries, and various other attractions in the tourism and hospitality industry.
During this 45-week program, students will take the Hospitality Core, Hospitality Today, and Hospitality Service Delivery course as well as 10 weeks of electives that build upon essential business skills. Throughout the program, students will experience hands-on training in courses where they will have the opportunity to apply learned knowledge into real-life scenarios.
In the Hospitality Core course, students will develop their critical thinking and presentation skills as well as learn the basics of hospitality. In the Hospitality Today course, students will gain an understanding of the general hospitality service standards today. In the Hospitality Service Delivery course, students will build on their general hospitality service standards and earn their FOODSAFE and Guest Service Gold Certificates and become START Restaurant Service Certified. Other earned certifications will depend on the electives taken by the student.
All Sprott Shaw Hospitality Programs incorporate the AHLEI (American Hotel & Lodging Education Institute) which is an organization recognized worldwide. This program also incorporates the COOP20 Work Term for practical job-ready experience.

University Transfer Program
This program is part of Sprott Shaw’s university transfer initiative for anyone looking to continue their education and pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Grade 12 / GED or mature student status (all transcripts must be “true certified copies” or originals)
Applicants must successfully complete the admissions interview and entrance assessments with a minimum score of 20/40 in the English Assessment and a minimum score of 20/40 in the Math Assessment (with a minimum composite score of 42/80)
Domestic Students:
Domestic students that can provide a Canadian transcript showing completion of English 11 or 12 (or equivalent) with a passing grade of ‘C’, will be exempt from having to write the English Entrance Assessment
Domestic students that can provide a Canadian transcript showing completion of Math 10, 11 or 12 (or equivalent) with a passing grade of ‘C’, will be exempt from having to write the Math Entrance Assessment
International Students:
International students can meet the Math Entrance Assessment requirement by providing an equivalent to Canadian High School Math 10, 11 or 12 with a passing grade of ‘C’. The credential must be evaluated and verified
International students can meet the English requirement by completing or demonstrating one of the following three options:
Sprott Shaw’s English Language Assessment, OR
Minimum IELTS Score 5.5 overall or iBT TOFEL Score of 70, OR
Completion of an ESL program from one of SSC’s partnered ESL schools
Diploma Requirements
60% average upon successful completion of all courses, including courses given a complete.
University Transfer Programs
Through our pathway programs, students can complete a Hospitality Industry Professional with Co-op diploma in the first year at Sprott Shaw and then pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Management at City University in Canada. Contact an advisor to learn more.

Students can expect to complete one to three hours of homework per day.

Describe what critical thinking is and how to improve it
Identify reasons and conclusions: The language of reasoning
Critically think about the internet (how to get reliable information from the internet)
Co-Op Work Term (20 weeks) (Comp/Inc)
Mandatory schedule of alternating class sessions and work terms
Adherence to the program scheduling format is mandatory and is designed to provide the prospective candidate with valuable exposure to language usage in a work setting
The alternating classroom sessions allow the student to maximize the lessons taught within the curriculum.
