Math for Trades

Start learning from home today with Summer classes!

We know it’s a challenging time, but you don’t have to put your life on hold. At Sprott Shaw, new and incoming students can register through our online admissions process and start learning online with many of our programs. Through remote “face-to-face” instructor-led classes, students can experience interactive learning in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Contact us to learn more. 

Math for Trades is a basic math refresher course based on the essential numeracy skills required to be a Construction Electrician (NOC 7241). This math course will assist students in building a foundation of math skills required and related to various trade applications.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the learner will:

  • Solve measurement and calculation problems using metric and imperial units of measurement
  • Apply algebra skills through manipulation of and application of formulas related to measurement
  • Apply skills used for money math calculations including percent
  • Apply problem-solving skills for scheduling, budgeting and accounting
  • Analyze and compare numerical data

20 Hours
Full-Time Program Length:
1 Weeks
(Includes holidays and professional days)

Admission Requirements:
  • Grade 12 / GED or mature student status
  • Applicants must successfully complete the admissions interview and may be required to do an entrance assessment

Note: English level assessment will be required for international students.

* Math for Trades was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

Students can expect to complete one to three hours of homework per day.

Courses List

This 1 week Certificate program requires the student to complete the following courses.

  • A basic math refresher course based on the essential numeracy skills required to be a Construction Electrician
  • This math course will assist students in building a foundation of math skills required and related to various trade applications
  • NOTE: Students must achieve 64% (average combined scoring) to qualify as a Math 11 prerequisite to the Sprott Shaw Practical Nursing program
