Math for Trades

Math for Trades is a basic math refresher course based on the essential numeracy skills required to be a Construction Electrician (NOC 7241). This math course will assist students in building a foundation of math skills required and related to various trade applications.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the learner will:

  • Solve measurement and calculation problems using metric and imperial units of measurement
  • Apply algebra skills through manipulation of and application of formulas related to measurement
  • Apply skills used for money math calculations including percent
  • Apply problem-solving skills for scheduling, budgeting and accounting
  • Analyze and compare numerical data

Admission Requirements:
  • Grade 12 / GED or mature student status
  • Applicants must successfully complete the admissions interview and may be required to do an entrance assessment

Note: English level assessment will be required for international students.

* Math for Trades was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

Students can expect to complete one to three hours of homework per day.

This 1 week Certificate program requires the student to complete the following courses.

  • A basic math refresher course based on the essential numeracy skills required to be a Construction Electrician
  • This math course will assist students in building a foundation of math skills required and related to various trade applications
  • NOTE: Students must achieve 64% (average combined scoring) to qualify as a Math 11 prerequisite to the Sprott Shaw Practical Nursing program
