By now, we’ve
realized that our students and staff have a heart of gold – they put in so much
time and effort to giving back to the community. And this event was no
exception.
During the charity-based family event, guests take part in an array of activities and have lunch with Santa, of course! Some of the fun activities include face painting, colouring, crafts, pictures with Santa!
Everyone who
attends has the opportunity to draw for one of the amazing gift baskets with
their entry ticket. We raised more money for the Starfish Pack by selling
additional raffle tickets.
The Starfish Pack Penticton
This year, all proceeds from the event went to the
Penticton Starfish Pack. The program provides food to local, food-insecure
elementary school students in the Lower Mainland and all across BC, as well as
Whatcom County in the United States.
Each
Thursday, volunteers pack two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, and healthy
snacks into each backpack for the weekend. In partnership with the Penticton
Rotary Club and Save-On-Foods, they currently provide 46 backpacks full of
nutritious food each week to 5 schools in Penticton.
This year, we
had over 50 Sprott Shaw staff and student volunteers and sold 262 tickets! Our
event raised $3,293 – over $1,000 more than last year! A big thank you goes out
to everyone who volunteered, donated, and stopped by to have lunch with Santa!
And don’t
worry, if you missed it this year, there’s always next year!
