WHAT WE DO
Academic Advising
We help plan for programs and curriculums suitable for international students, selecting the best study plan for students who wish to pursue further education, seek employment or apply for immigration in Canada.
Visa Applications
Before you can apply to enter Canada as an international student, you must show proof that you have been accepted by Sprott Shaw. If you are not a permanent resident or citizen of Canada and you plan to study in Canada for more than six months, you will need a study permit. Visit here for more information.
Airport Pickup
Our student service centre offers airport pickup for international students. A student services representative will welcome you at the airport and escort you to your host family. To use this service, simply send your flight information at least two weeks prior to arrival in Canada.
Homestay
Canadians are famous for their kindness and welcoming attitude – this is exactly what students will receive when they are greeted by the members of their homestay family. We run a series of background and reference checks for host families in our database to ensure a perfect match between you and your family.
Students are required to submit a homestay application form and arrangement fee at least two weeks prior to arriving in Canada. This will allow sufficient time for matching students and their homestay family as well as allow us to send students all of their homestay information ahead of time.
Housing
Global Education City (GEC) wants you to make yourself at home in one of their elegantly appointed luxury furnished apartment suites. Student housing suites start at 2 bedrooms, 800-square feet, and are complete with glass showers and soaking tubs. Guest amenities also include a weight room, a sitting lounge with a large balcony, as well as weekly common area housekeeping and secured underground parking. For more information visit www.gecliving.com.
Medical Insurance
All students are required to have medical insurance for the duration of their studies at Sprott Shaw. International Students must obtain Private Medical Insurance for at least your first three months in BC before receiving a BC provincial Medical Services Plan (MSP) coverage. We will help students submit the MSP application shortly after arrival in BC.
Career Planning
With approximately 6,000 graduates entering the job market every year, Sprott Shaw’s Career Planning and Management help students to make a better and smoother transition into the workforce. All Sprott Shaw campuses have professional GSR crew to assist students with resume building, interview skills training, and career exploring.
Activities
Sprott Shaw offers a wide range of activities during and after class that are fun, interesting, and most of all, an educational experience for international students. Our teachers and staff encourage students to participate in various conversations and communicative activities, celebrations of International and Canadian holidays, student clubs, sports teams, alumni associations, and tutoring/exchange programs.
Students are also encouraged to experience the wonderfully multi-cultural environment in Vancouver, the natural beauty and history of Victoria, the great outdoors and friendly people of Kamloops, and all of the great adventures throughout Canada.
