  • This course is designed to provide students with a complete understanding of the law relating to immigration in Canada. Students will learn about the main pieces of legislation including the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, the Citizenship Act, and the main United Nations’ Conventions, ratified by Canada.
  • Students will examine the criteria and process whereby individuals gain admission to Canada as visitors, students and workers, as well as the criteria for permanent residence in the Family Class and Economic Class programs. Students examine the rules and principles applicable to those seeking refugee status in Canada, the tribunal process of the Immigration and Refugee Board and the process for obtaining Canadian Citizenship.
  • A systems approach will be taken with a particular focus on border security, criminality, and anti-terrorism laws.
