I recently finished the electrical foundation program in sprott shaw. I am very satisfied with my experience here. My instructor Julian taught us a lot and answered patiently every question we had. He really made a lot efforts to guide us to be a better electrician, not only in the academic way, but also in a professional way. If you are thinking of joining electrical foundation program, i will definitely recommend him.

What Students Are Saying About Sprott Shaw College of Trades

“The teachers were amazing and helped me understand some things that I didn’t quite get at first. They were flexible and generous enough to offer assistance after school hours, which I was grateful for. The company I was doing my practicum with reached out to me with a job offer.”

Naweed

Thumbs up for our Electrician program

“I took my level 1 electrical at Sprott Shaw School of Trades and it was wonderful. The staff and teachers are extremely helpful and truly care about your future. I didn’t finish my course and took a year off and when I inquired about coming back to finish they were very accommodating. I got 1 on 1 time with a teacher to review the course, and I got to join another level 1 class in the shop for a week. All of my experiences with Sprott Shaw School of Trades have been wonderful and I also became employed right after finishing the course. I would definitely recommend this school.”

Anna

“I studied as a mature student. Getting into the electrician trade through BCIT was much more difficult for me being an immigrant from India and new in trade (eligibility and waiting list). Sprott Shaw helped me learn the basics (practical classes helped lot) and I was hired by the company after my practicum.”

Meet our School of Trades Instructors

Ryan B – Electrical

Upon completing journeyman training and gaining my Red Seal (interprovincial) status, I joined the board of directors of the former Renewable Energy Society and focused on teaching going “off-grid” and energy efficiency. As an instructor, I look towards forming the new generation of tradesmen by applying the Canadian Electrical Code rules and demonstrating proper installation and maintenance techniques.

Kevin M – Electrical

As my father was an electrician, I became inspired and signed up as an apprentice in 1994. I started my official career in custom homes and moved on to small commercial projects, high-rise condos, and large commercial projects before moving into teaching. I am a Red Seal electrician, foreman, lead hand, and business partner – and now since 2017, a Sprott Shaw instructor too.

Ken M – Electrical

In 1990, I became an apprentice, wiring hotels from start to finish. After I earned my Red Seal, I specialized in essential life support systems and wiring for apartment buildings and seniors’ homes, including all essential life support systems. After back surgery, I turned my attention to teaching and have been teaching electrical foundation for Sprott Shaw since.

Vili D – Electrical

I have been a certified journeyman/foreman electrician for over 20 years on more than 50 new home construction projects as well as dozens of other major commercial/industrial projects including new construction, retrofits, remodels, and plant expansions. After work, I turned to education. I earned my Bachelor of Education and have been an electrical trades instructor for over 5 years, with experience teaching levels 1 through 4.
