JOSHUA CARBAJAL, HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED WITH CO-OP

What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?

Before attending Sprott Shaw College, I was a small restaurant owner in my country.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?

I chose Sprott Shaw College because, originally, I was enrolled in another school for marketing. However, a friend recommended Sprott Shaw, and I decided to give it a try. The transition to transfer schools was smooth, and I have no regrets; they assisted me throughout the process. My research on the school also supported the positive feedback.

How was the admissions process?

The admissions process was smooth, with the advisor assisting me every step of the way. They remained very supportive until the start of the classes.

What program did you choose and why?

I took Health Care Aide with coop, leveraging my background in the Philippines with a medical short course. I have no regrets; the instructors are experts and very knowledgeable about the courses.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?

The school environment was amazing; they provided all the support throughout the course.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

During my practicum, I applied everything I learned in school, and now, during my coop at Qualicum Beach in Nanaimo Island, Therese and the school continue to guide us on our journey. I highly recommend Sprott to all future international students.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

It was so smooth; I received a phone call and had an interview after submitting my resume online. The school’s good reputation is evident as they have already partnered with various workplaces here in British Columbia.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

As a care aide in a facility, my duties involve assisting residents with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, and eating. I also monitor and report any changes in their health, provide emotional support, and ensure a clean and safe environment. It’s rewarding to contribute to their well-being.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?

My advice to future students of Sprott Shaw College: always do your best in meeting the necessary requirements or seeking advice. Don’t hesitate to ask for help from the school, as they provide ample support to students.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff at Sprott Shaw Downtown, especially to Therese, our instructor. She molded and prepared us to be good and better health care aides.
