Rachel is a graduate from Sprott Shaw College’s Early Childhood Education program.
Rachel came to Canada six months before starting college. She came from Korea, with her husband, a 2-year-old son, and a 3-month-old daughter.
In Korea, Rachel has a Business Management Degree, and worked as a Microsoft Office Administrator for 5 years. After working hard, Rachel and her husband, realized their passion was to open a Christian Ministry Centre, starting with a Christian daycare centre. You see, Rachel comes from a long ancestral heritage of Christians. Several of her ancestors were martyrs for their belief in God. Most of Rachel’s relatives are ministers including her father.
“I entered Sprott Shaw College […] to take the ECE course. While attending college, I learned how I should treat children properly, and to benefit their education. I [learned about] circle time, guiding & caring, safety and how to develop a variety of programs for children, as well as how to maintain a … safe and clean environment. [I also learned how to] maintain finances. The college assignments were useful for my practicum, and in the future, when I opened a daycare. I got job offers in four different places that I did my practicums/observations at.
One month after graduating, I opened Bethel Christian Child Care, and I am currently working there. I am here to be with children and learn more about them. Over time, Bethel Christian Child Care will use part of the income to donate to missionary work for children.
Finally, I want to thank Sprott Shaw College and Early Childhood Education Coordinator, Terry Breck, for helping me accomplish my dreams.”
Rachel recommends the ECE program for all those interested in working with young children, but especially young mothers who can care for children in their own home.
