Sandra Weymouth Executive Medical Office Administrator Nanaimo Campus
Success Story
At the time of looking to start school, I was a stay home mom to my two kids ages 2 and 6. I had wanted to go back to school to get a career started. I visited all the colleges in Nanaimo and I found Sprott Shaw College to be very welcoming, as well as my cousin recommended them. While I was in the Executive MOA program I surprised myself with the grades that I achieved and made wonderful life-long friends. A couple of months into my program, Susan Poelman (Instructor) gave me the information on a clinic in town that was looking for a temp for two weeks to catch up on paperwork. After two weeks they had me organizing parts of their database, after a few months they told me that they would like me to stay on part-time. I was working 4 hours a day, 5 days a week around my class hours. After graduation, the clinic gave me a promotion and raise! I have been with this clinic for 2 1/2 years – I have now become second MOA (assistant manager). I love the Monday to Friday day time hours and being able to be home with my family on weekends. The doctors and MOAs at my clinic are wonderful – we are a very strong team and work extremely well together. My best advice is to talk in person with the colleges in the area as part of your research, I found that you can’t get everything you need to make such an important decision solely from the internet.
