The Montessori method of education is a form of teaching that emphasizes independence for children and views them as naturally eager for knowledge. The Montessori method also recognizes that children are capable of initiating learning in a sufficiently supportive and well-prepared learning environment.
MACTE-Accredited Montessori Programs at Sprott Shaw College
At Sprott Shaw College, we have two Montessori programs, Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Education, a 38-week certificate program, and Early Childhood Education – Montessori, an 80-week diploma program.
We are pleased to announce that both of our Montessori programs have recently been accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). The MACTE accredits certification and diploma programs based on the evidence that they prepare competent, caring, and qualified professional Montessori educators and have the capacity to monitor and improve their programs’ quality.
The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)
In 1955, the MACTE was founded and since then, it has been dedicated to improving academic degree and certificate programs for Montessori professional educators who teach and lead in schools and post-secondary institutions at the Infant and Toddler through Secondary II levels. In their role, the MACTE assures the public of the accredited school’s quality.
