Online Learning
at Sprott Shaw
In March, the government of British
Columbia announced that educational institutions, such as ours, constitute an
essential service. While Sprott Shaw College was already positioned to deliver
courses in an online and remote format, this announcement reinforces our
ability to continue to operate and keep our college doors open. In the first
week of our shift online, we successfully transitioned over 2,200 students and
16 campus locations to our online learning environment on WebEx.
WebEx
is a video and web conferencing platform that allows students to attend remote
“face-to-face” structured classes that are fully instructor-led. What this
means is that, aside from the fact that classes are online and in the comfort
and safety of our students’ own homes, everything else will remain the same –
including class times, who the instructor is, and the assignments.
Since our WebEx platform is synchronous, all classes are live, interactive, and engaging. With our online classes, students will be able to directly communicate with their instructors and classmates and even ask questions on the spot. Just like an in-person class, lectures cannot be pre-recorded or recorded so students should listen, pay attention, and ask questions when they have them.
Online
Admissions at Sprott Shaw
To
further support our students in their career ambitions during this time, we are
offering an online admissions process. With this, we are transitioning our
admissions process to be a completely virtual online experience where students
can meet and talk with an Admissions Advisor over the phone and soon, via
video.
So,
how does the online admissions process work? Once you inquire with us, we will
call you to set up a phone interview with an Admissions Advisor. During this
interview, our advisor will be able to answer your questions and confirm that
you have the prerequisites required for your program of choice. Once you’ve
made your decision, you can use our online admissions application to start your
registration process at Sprott Shaw.
As
we continue to actively adapt to the changing environment, we will uphold our
promise of delivering high-quality education and training for our students,
even in unprecedented times.
