by Sprott Shaw College
Before attending Sprott Shaw College, I was working at a dairy farm mostly full time and keeping myself busy with my hobbies.
I chose Sprott Shaw because they offered an accelerated class which worked really well with my schedule and wanting to be able to start working quickly.
The admissions process was quick and simple. The admissions advisor gave me all the information I needed and wanted in my first visit with her!
I choose the Education Assistant program because I have always wanted to help those with learning challenges. Also, myself having an older sister with an exceptionality really made me realize I could assist others as well. It really is my God-given gift and brings me so much joy!
The environment at Sprott Shaw was incredible. Everyone was so patient, kind and supportive through the whole program and even more so through the switch to online classes when COVID-19 landed. I never felt under too much pressure throughout the whole experience.
My practicum was 7 weeks long at Rosedale Traditional Community School in Agassiz and it was really really good, I loved everything about that experience and the staff there were fantastic.
I finished my practicum on November 13th, and with the Holidays and everything in between, I had my interview on January 5th and I was officially hired on the 13th! It was a very fast process.
I now work as a casual EA for the School District and I absolutely love it. I fill in for anyone who is sick or on leave and it gives me a wide range of variety.
I would tell anyone coming to Sprott Shaw to enjoy their program and rely on the staff’s expertise, they were always eager to answer any questions and always gave me the best advice.
I am now working full-time as a Casual Education Assistant for the school district and I am very content with my education and feel prepared for any school I walk into, thanks to Sprott Shaw College. 🙂
