Jessica Burrows, Health Care Assistant

How was the admissions process?

Admission was easy, I was supported by Sprott Shaw staff at the Penticton campus from day 1. They were all so helpful!

What program did you choose and why?

I chose the Health Care Assistant (HCA) program and it changed my life forever.

What was the environment like during your time with Sprott Shaw?

The environment was rich with knowledge. From the instructors, I was able to learn, grow, and develop my skills. I will always remember my time here as amazing.

Where was your practicum and how was it?

My practicum was at Kyalami Place Assisted Living and it was a great experience.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

I had an interview at Interior Health before I even completed the program and also had some shifts at Kyalami Place.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I currently work at Kyalami Assisted Living. I do medication administration, medication reminders, showers and baths, safety checks, activities and care when needed.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?

I would say enjoy every day because it goes by so fast.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I want to say that my instructors, both classroom and clinical were such special people and they have impacted my life forever. I am so thankful that I was trained by these women because I feel so prepared for my new career and I have both of them to thank for it.
