What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?
Before starting my studies at Sprott Shaw College I was working in community home support.
Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?
I chose Sprott Shaw because of the longevity of the campus and its history of success [“since 1903”].
How was the admissions process?
My academic advisor was thorough which made the process very easygoing.
What program did you choose and why?
I chose the Health Care Assistant program because it was the ideal stepping stone towards the career in Nursing that I’ve always wanted.
What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?
It was a very collegiate experience with great teaching from the instructors and a supportive learning environment.
Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?
I enjoyed my Practicum but I loved my preceptorship even more!
How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?
I had a job within a week at Cascade Gardens Seniors Community with Fraser Health.
If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?
Make sure that working in the healthcare industry is what you want. Understand the type of work and the hours of the profession you are choosing. If you’re okay with those realities, then go all in!
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Just that each profession has its ups and downs, perseverance and a good outlook for your future will help you get to the finish line and get you that first job in an amazing new career.
