What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?

I was working for Union Gospel Mission as a janitor.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?

I chose Sprott Shaw College because they had a program (Community Social Worker) that complemented my life experience and equipped me with the skills I need to start a new career.

How was the admissions process?

It was very straightforward and easy to do! That’s what I loved most about this process: I had so much hope for a better future, and the last thing I needed was to not get into the college because of paperwork. They made it’s so easy to get in and get started. So thank you so much admissions advisors!

What program did you choose and why?

I picked the Community Support Worker program because I have so much life experience that would make me perfect for the job but I needed the formal education to complement it.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?

Sprott Shaw was the most welcoming place ever for me! It’s like coming to a new family that wants the best for you. Wow, I truly loved my teacher and the rest of the people I got to know during my time there.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

AIDS Vancouver it’s where I did my Practicum. What can I say, I loved it!! The work they do and what they stand for are just amazing!

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

I am working for AIDS Vancouver through my practicum placement. Wow!

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I am an outreach worker and addictions peer-navigator with the Provincial Health Services Authority at St-Pauls Hospital.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?

Come to Sprott Shaw if you are looking to take the first step towards a beautiful future and want to learn with a group of like-minded people who want to succeed.
