This August, Sprott
Shaw College will be celebrating our 116th anniversary (but we like
to think of it as our birthday since it’s more festive!) as a designated
educational institution in British Columbia. To recognize this monumental
milestone, our campuses will be hosting several events and activities with
students and staff throughout the month of August. You’ll find lots of food,
games, and fun activities for everyone at our campuses!
The Sprott Shaw Story: A Glimpse into the Past
As we celebrate our
116th year, we also celebrate our heritage, history, and roots.
For Sprott
Shaw, our story first began in 1903 when Robert James Sprott partnered with
William Henry Shaw of Shaw Colleges to open the first Sprott Shaw School,
formerly named Vancouver Business Institute. From this initial conception, RJ
Sprott and WH Shaw’s development plans included four schools in Vancouver, one
in Nanaimo, and one in Victoria. These founding colleges survived economic
recessions, two World Wars, and the Great Depression – all of which made its
foundation stronger for today.
Since then,
Sprott Shaw has established a renowned reputation for equipping our students with
hands-on training and preparing them with the skills and qualifications
required for the competitive working industry ahead.
Sprott Shaw Today and Beyond
We will be
celebrating our 116th birthday throughout August so join us at our
campuses to participate in all the festivities and events going on. As we enter
our 116th year, we will feature and play on the theme of “Sweet 16.”
See below for
an exclusive sneak peek of what some of our campuses are doing!
Abbotsford Campus
Keeping with the theme of “Sweet 16,” the Abbotsford campus will be celebrating with a 16-item scavenger hunt where students and staff can explore the campus to find various items. Each item represents a reward so there will be 16 chances for everyone to find and win a prize!
East Vancouver Campus
The East Vancouver campus will be hosting a Sweet Sixteen Dance Ball themed “Through the Decades.” For the Ball, students are encouraged to wear their best 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s outfits with the intention of dressing to impressing! The event will feature balloons, a disco ball, streamers, and of course, cakes and cupcakes!
Nanaimo Campus
It’s time for a fiesta at the Nanaimo campus with a complete DIY taco bar for all students and staff to enjoy! Stuff your tacos with as much filling as you want – make the creation yours and don’t forget to be creative with it!
Vancouver Pender and Seymour Campus
Are you a fan of the casino game, Wheel of Fortune? If the answer is yes, don’t miss out on the chance to spin the wheel at the Vancouver Pender and Seymour campus! Participants who spin the wheel get a chance to win swag, food items, and movie tickets!
If luck isn’t
on your side for the wheel, don’t worry – there will also be cake for everyone
on-site to satisfy your sweet tooth!
