I am a Clinical Instructor in the Health Care Assistant program. I have been a nurse for 9 years specializing in geriatrics, with special needs adults and children, and mental health patients. I graduated as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in 2011, and as a health care assistant (HCA) in 2005. I pride myself on instructing with a “hands-on” approach to produce the best and work-ready care aides.
Since 2015, I have been teaching at Sprott Shaw. Prior to teaching, I worked at the Vancouver General Hospital in the Neurology department. I love making medical terminology fun and relevant – you can expect my classes to be full of knowledge, experiences, discussions, and laughter.
I have been teaching for 4 years and have over 15 years of experience as an early childhood educator. I am a certified early childhood educator and have training as a human services worker and child and youth care worker. I have worked with both the Ministry of Children and Families and PacificCare.
I have been a nurse for 16 years and have a background in acute care, complex care, and maternity. With experience instructing both practical nurses and health care assistants and a passion for communication, I love encouraging students in the Health Care Assistant program to do best practices in their field.
After completing my Master’s Degree in Community Development, I immigrated to Canada from Cuba 7 years ago. I have 15 years of experience as a professor and instructor and 5 years working in early childhood education settings.
I graduated from Sprott Shaw in 2016 with a diploma in Business Administration Management. I am currently working as an Employment Services Specialists and Business Instructor and have been doing so since January 2017.
I studied social work and counselling in Regina and am a certified Life Skills Instructor. I have been the Community Support – Social Service Worker Instructor at Sprott Shaw for the past 4 years. I firmly believe that strengthening our communities and addressing and destigmatizing mental health is crucial to a functional society.
