Since our inception in 1903, we have been leading the way in career training. We started the province’s first radio station in 1922, began offering flight training at our Aviation School in the 1930’s, and were one of the first private Nursing Schools in Canada. While we no longer offer flight training at our campuses, there has recently been a great demand for us to re-introduce and offer similar programs that allow our students to soar into the air and reach new heights. With our history in aviation and flying, it is only fitting that we introduce our newest program, Space Exploration with the Sprott Shaw School of Galactic Travel, launching in early 2022.
Today, we are proud to announce that we are the first college in BC to establish a space school for students who have a passion for the solar system and the galaxy.
The Sprott Shaw Space School will offer two programs for you to choose from:
- The Galactic Travel Basics Program
- The Fly Me to the Moon Program
The Galactic Travel Basics Program
The Galactic Travel Basics Program is twelve months long and will equip you with the skills and knowledge to fully understand all things living and non-living in the universe, beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of all eight planets, the Moon, the Sun, the stars, and how each one serves our solar system. You will explore the possibilities of extraterrestrial life forms and be able to determine how many light years away particular asteroids are. By the end of the program, you will also be able to pinpoint and name all the stars in the galaxy and know how to use an industrial deep space viewing telescope.
The Fly Me to the Moon Program
The Fly Me to the Moon Program allows you to learn the material covered in the Galactic Travel Basic Program in a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Fly Me to the Moon Program will begin with courses on spaceship systems and space endurance training. This additional training is imperative as you will have the opportunity to fly out into space with your cohort and instructors on one of our brand-new spaceships. Your spaceship will launch from one of our 16 campuses to our newly established 17th campus in outer space, which will be orbiting around Earth. Once you dock on our 17th campus, you will continue learning the material covered in the Galactic Travel Basics Program in a zero-gravity learning environment. Through this program, you will gain first-hand experience of life without gravity.
More Zero-Gravity Programs Coming Soon
In addition to these two programs, many more of our regular programs will also be offered in a zero-gravity learning environment as we continue to develop our 17th campus. By early 2023, students will be able to take any one of our programs including Early Childhood Education, Practical Nursing, Paralegal, Hospitality Management, Industrial Design, and more in a zero-gravity learning experience. All of our zero-gravity classes will still feature small classroom sizes, interactive hands-on learning, and flexible start dates.
As said by Sprott Shaw College’s President, Victor Tesan, “We’ve done in-person learning, we’ve done online learning, we’ve done blended learning, and now it’s time for something new. Since we’ve been teaching and educating for over 118 years, it was natural for us to update our programs to include zero-gravity learning.”
As you will be flying into space, please note that your graduation diploma will state the date in which you return to earth, not the date that you left earth. Depending on how long your program is, we cannot guarantee that you will return in the same year that you left.
Spots for our Sprott Shaw School of Galactic Travel are very limited so please don’t wait to inquire!
Most importantly, happy first day of April!
