Pivot Point is a Social Service Agency for children and adults with autism and diverse abilities throughout British Columbia. Simply put, we are passionate about creating positive change!

Who did you hire from Sprott Shaw and what Program did they graduate from?

We hired Tara-Lynn Wagner as an Educational Behaviour Interventionist.

She took the Community Support Worker Program at the Sprott Shaw Abbotsford College Campus.

Why did you choose to hire from Sprott Shaw?

After sending information to Sprott Shaw about our willingness to offer practicum placements, every communication has been professional, thoughtful and relevant.

The practicum student that we supported has always been willing to go the extra mile and we have gladly offered her a permanent position within our organization.

Was the student prepared for the job in terms of skills, knowledge, and professionalism?

Absolutely! Tara-Lynn is attentive, follows instructions carefully, is willing to try any task she is presented with, and always with a kind word and a smile on her face.

What are some of the student’s daily tasks and responsibilities?

Educational Behavioural Interventionists work alongside our Lead Instructors, within our Community Classrooms, to provide one-to-one and small group teaching opportunities.

Support in maintaining our crafted classroom environments, learning materials, and curriculum promotes each child’s academic learning potential while also allowing students to develop self-regulation, social, and practical life skills.

Thriving in very dynamic environments, Tara-Lynn experienced working with several different students with very diverse needs, and work that will make a profound difference to children and their families

Would you recommend other employers to hire students from Sprott Shaw?

Our experiences with Sprott Shaw have always been positive.

We hope that our relationship in supporting their students will continue to grow as they have helped us not only support students interested in working within our field of care, but encourages us to remain engaged and develop new ways to maintain the highest levels of standards for our staff and clients alike.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

We would be happy to support other practicum students right across the province.

Our HR Manager, Amanda Nickart is more than happy to speak with someone from any of your BC campuses. hr@pivotpoint.ca

We also have flexible work schedules for students looking for part-time work that can coincide with their studies, or during the summer months.
