What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?

I was a Community Support Worker.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?

The short full-time schedule was appealing to me; working from 8 to 1 allowed me to continue coaching volleyball and complete my homework up to my standards.

How was the admissions process?

Very simple.

What program did you choose and why?

I have always wanted to be a teacher because I have a passion for working with people, especially children. I love the energy they bring into the world around them, and I believe there’s no better field to be a part of than early childhood education.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?

My teacher, Carla, was unbelievably positive and supportive. Dorothy, at the front desk, is amazing and always there for a hug if you need one. Penny and Tammy are also always available for extra support and just an email away.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

I completed practicum 1 and 2 at the Gathering Place, and practicum 3 at CEFA on Spall.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

I began work the day following my practicum.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I am currently working at CEFA, floating between a variety of age groups based on where support is needed. You will commonly find me in the classrooms for ages 2, 3, and 4.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?

Focus on your schoolwork, but don’t forget to have fun and communicate with your teachers. By doing so, you will be successful.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I miss your smiling faces.
