Here2Talk connects students with mental health support when they need it. Through this program, all students – domestic or international – currently registered in a B.C. post-secondary institution have access to free, confidential counselling and community referral services, conveniently available 24/7 via app, phone and web.

For your convenience, Here2Talk provides counselling and support services in various languages upon request. They will try their best to match people to support in their preferred language. However, please note that language-specific counsellors, and third-party translation services are limited and therefore, subject to availability and/or a waiting time.

Here2Talk’s resources and professional counsellors can help you address common concerns such as:

  • Tensions with family members, friends, or instructors
  • Feelings of isolation, loneliness or depression
  • General stress and anxiety

Victim Support Services

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre provides trauma-informed support for survivors of sexualized violence. Services open to women, trans, nonbinary, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people, 1-877-392-7583 (24/7).

VictimLink BC provides 24/7 information and referrals for victims of crime, including sexual violence. Services are available in 150 languages via phone, text message or email.

Domestic Violence BC offers a list of resources for people experiencing domestic violence.

IBPOC and Cultural Support and Crisis Services

The Indian Residential School Survivors Society supports residential school survivors and offers a 24/7 crisis line for anyone experiencing pain or distress as a result of their residential school experience.

The Hope for Wellness Helpline offers 24/7 mental health counselling and crisis intervention to all Indigenous peoples across Canada by experienced and culturally competent counsellors. Counsellors can work with you to find other wellness supports that are available near you. Phone and chat counselling is available in English and French. On request, phone counselling is also available in Cree, Ojibway, and Inuktitut.

The Mental Health Benefit (through the First Nations Health Authority) provides info on available funding options for counselling and FNHA mental health programs.

LGBTQ2S+ Support Services

QMUNITY is BC’s Queer Resource Centre, which responds to the needs of B.C.’s queer communities and helps them thrive.

Substance Use Support Services

The Alcohol and Drug Information and Referral Service is available 24/7 to direct B.C. residents to education, prevention and treatment services and regulatory agencies.

Students may refer to our Substance Use Policy or contact their Campus Director for further guidance.
