If you consider
yourself to be like most people, then you realize that deciding on a career
path is no easy walk in the park. It doesn’t really matter if you’re 22 or 67
years old, narrowing down on one path is difficult at any age.
If you’re
still lost today, we have a few questions that might be able to help you circle
(or cross out) a particular field of work.
- Do you like working with and meeting
new people?
- Do you consider yourself to be
organized?
- Do you like taking on new challenges?
- Do you like having the flexibility to
work in a variety of industries?
If you
answered yes to any of these questions, then a career in the administration
field just might be the perfect fit for you!
At Sprott Shaw College, our Administration programs offer an array of diploma and certificate programs in the legal, medical, office/business, and veterinary industries that you can explore! Let’s take a deeper look at each.
Administrative Careers in the Legal Industry
As previously
mentioned in one of our blogs, the
legal industry is not as difficult (and time-consuming) to enter as many people
believe. In fact, one of the easiest and fastest ways to work in the law
industry is to pursue a career as a Paralegal or Legal Administrator. A career
in one of these two roles will allow you to work in the law industry, become
familiar with the legal landscape, and also take on some general
responsibilities that lawyers may be tasked with – all without the 7-year time
commitment.
At Sprott
Shaw, some of the particular programs we offer in the legal industry include
the Executive
Legal Administrator with Practicum, Legal
Administrator Accelerated Program, and Paralegal
Program. All of these programs familiarize students with the
processes and everyday workings of the law. Students will also be equipped with
the knowledge and skills to use software platforms like MS Office, DivorceMate
Inc., Sage 50 (Simply) Accounting, and more.
Administrative Careers in the Business and Office Industry
The fact of
the matter is that today’s businesses (both small and large) are booming –
especially in Vancouver. More and more large corporations are building their
headquarters in Vancouver – take Salesforce, Samsung, Amazon, and soon-to-be,
Apple, for example. The growth of these companies and offices signal a surge of
career opportunities for those seeking administrative and office jobs across BC
and in Vancouver.
Sprott Shaw
offers a multitude of programs catered for those who are looking to work in the
field like the Executive
Office Administrator Accelerated Program, Executive
Office Administrator Program, and the Executive
Office Administrator Program with Practicum.
These
programs train students to become familiar and well-versed with the universal
platforms commonly used in today’s businesses.
Moreover, students will be trained in transferable skills and
competencies that are relevant and pertinent to a variety of industries. Some
of these competencies include digital marketing strategies, effective
communication, human resources knowledge, and efficient travel and event
planning methods.
Administrative Careers in the Medical Industry
Much like the
legal industry, the medical industry isn’t as challenging to enter as people
think. And no, you don’t need to become a doctor to work in the field –
instead, you can become a Medical Office Administrator, Health Unit Clerk, or
even a Health
Care Assistant!
Some of the
programs offered at Sprott Shaw include the Executive
Medical Office Administrator Program with Practicum, Medical
Office Administrator Health Unit Clerk Program, and Medical
Office Administrator Program. These programs prepare students to
perform administrative duties in doctor’s offices, hospitals, medical clinics,
and many other healthcare settings.
At the
completion of the program, students will be greatly skilled in receptionist
duties like managing and coordinating appointments, compiling patients’ charts,
recording vital signs, ordering hospital supplies, greeting and checking in
patients, and more.
Administrative Careers in Veterinary Industry
If you like
animals, this career is a chance to see and work with them every day on the
job! (And who doesn’t want to see furry friends every day?)
Working an administrative role in an animal hospital or clinic allows you to care for some of your favourite friends – from dogs to cats to birds and more! Plus, more households are adopting domestic pets meaning that the demand for administrator roles in animal clinics will equally soar. Everyone wants to keep their furry (or maybe not so furry) friend healthy!
The Veterinary
Assistant Program qualifies students to administer an extensive
range of animal care services for both the office and clinical settings of
veterinary hospitals. Some of the topics emphasized in this program include
animal restraint, nutrition, pharmacology, clinical nursing, human relations,
administration, surgical procedures, and disease and prevention. This particular
program includes a practicum opportunity where students can experience hands-on
training within veterinary hospitals even before graduation!
