Legal Administrator Program

A Legal Administrator is required to have an understanding of the vocabulary and processes of law. They handle and format legal correspondence such as deeds, wills, affidavits and briefs.

Legal Admins also proofread outgoing documents and correspondence to make sure that the documents agree with legal procedures and grammatical usage. In some cases, they attend court or meetings to take notes or minutes.

Legal Administrator Learning Objectives

  • Perform administrative duties such as typing correspondence and reports from handwritten copy or dictation
  • Format legal correspondence such as deeds, wills, affidavits and briefs
  • Ensure documents agree with legal procedures and grammatical usage
  • Prepare presentation materials, compile data and research statistics
  • Attend committee meetings and take minutes
  • Schedule appointments
  • Prepare invoices and payments

Admission Requirements:
  • Grade 12 / GED or mature student status
  • Applicants must successfully complete the admissions interview and may be required to do an entrance assessment

Note: English level assessment will be required for international students.

Diploma Requirements:
  • 60% average upon successful completion of all courses, including courses given a complete

Note: A typing speed of 50-65 words per minute may also be required for employment.

* Legal Administrator Program was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

Students can expect to complete one to three hours of homework per day.

  • Complete the Accounting Cycle to closing (GL, AP, AR, Payroll, Year End)
  • Prepare Financial and Business Reports

  • MS Office Certification
  • MS Office Word editing, layout, templates, styles and
    sections, mail merge, tables, charts and desktop publishing

  • MS Office Certification
  • Plan, edit and manage worksheets (formulas/functions)

  • Computer basics/file management
  • Goal setting, note-taking, problem-solving, teamwork
  • Overview of policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate the ability to use MS Word and MS PowerPoint

  • Research, prepare and deliver presentations
  • Apply proper use of grammar principles
  • Overview of processes of communication in the workplace
  • Use MS Office PowerPoint

    business environment
  • Memos, email, letters and reports
